Steven E. Bernstein, Founder and Chairman of the Board, founded the Company in 1989. From 1986 to 1989, Mr. Bernstein was employed by McCaw Cellular Communications where he spearheaded the development of the initial Pittsburgh cellular system and the start up of the Pittsburgh sales network. Mr. Bernstein is a graduate of the University of Florida, where he majored in Real Estate and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He was a 1995 and 1996 Florida Entrepreneur of the Year finalist and earned the Personal Communications Industry Association's (PCIA) 1996 Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
Jeffrey A. Stoops is President, Chief Executive Officer and a director of SBA Communications Corporation. He has been Chief Executive Officer since January 1, 2002. He was appointed President in April 2000 and has been a director since August 1999. Mr. Stoops served as Chief Financial Officer from December 1998 to April 2000. He joined the company in March 1997 as Senior Vice President responsible for finance, capital market activities, mergers and acquisitions and legal matters of the Company. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Stoops was a partner with Gunster, Yoakley, a Florida based law firm, where he practiced for thirteen years in the corporate, securities and mergers and acquisitions areas. Mr. Stoops is a member of the Florida Bar.
Kurt L. Bagwell, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, assumed his current responsibility at SBA Network Services, Inc. in January 2002 after being with the company for a year as VP of Operations in the Services Division. His current duties include the day to day management of the company's Services division, Managed Sites, and New Tower Builds as well as the Operations and Maintenance of the company's tower portfolio. Mr. Bagwell has been in the wireless infrastructure business since 1990, having held various management positions at Centel, Sprint Cellular and Sprint PCS. While at Sprint PCS from 1995 through 2001, Mr. Bagwell oversaw the initial buildout of the Eastern United States, in addition to the expanded buildout of over 10,000 cell sites nationwide. Mr. Bagwell has a BS degree in Administrative Management from Clemson University.
Thomas P. Hunt, Senior Vice President and General Counsel, joined SBA in September, 2000. Prior to joining SBA, Mr. Hunt was a partner with Gunster, Yoakley & Stewart, P.A., a South Florida law firm, where he practiced for 16 years in the corporate and real estate areas. Mr. Hunt is a member of the Florida Bar and received his B.A. in economics from Brown University, magna cum laude, and his J.D. from the University of Florida, with high honors.
Anthony J. Macaione, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, joined SBA in April 2004. Most recently, Mr. Macaione was Senior Vice President, Corporate Controller and Chief Accounting Officer for Nasdaq-listed Perry Ellis International, a leading international marketer of men's apparel and related accessories. Prior to Perry Ellis, Mr. Macaione served as Vice President-Finance for a division of Liz Claiborne. Mr. Macaione has spent over 19 years combined in both public and private accounting, providing him extensive working experience in a broad cross-section of industries. Mr. Macaione is a CPA and a member of the Florida Chapter of Financial Executives International.
